Biography

Dan Dodd was born and raised in New Lexington, Ohio, where he learned the values of hard work, integrity and fairness from his parents: Robert, an attorney and Mary, a teacher.

Dan delivered the Zanesville Times Recorder and later worked at McDonald’s in New Lexington while receiving a firm grounding in academics and values, first at St. Rose School in New Lexington and later at Bishop Rosecrans High School in Zanesville.

While at Rosecrans, Dan played football and baseball, participated in Key Club and was Vice-President of the National Honor Society. He graduated in 1996.

In 1998, Dan served in Washington, D.C. as an intern for U.S. Senator John Glenn. The internship gave Dan a firsthand look at how legislators can help constituents: by listening carefully to their problems, then developing common sense solutions. Dan earned a bachelor of arts in history and political science from Villanova University in 2000 and enrolled in the University of Cincinnati College of Law.

As the representative from the 91st District, Dan serves on the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, Financial Institutions, Real Estate and Securities, Veterans' Affairs and Ways and Means Committees while also serving as the Chairman of the House Insurance Committee.  In addition, Dan has also been appointed to the Ohio Retirement Study Council and the Workers' Compensation Council.

Dan's first bill, HB 184, was introduced as a result of problems with the salaries and job duties of local officials in his district.  Dan responded quickly to the problem by introducing legislation that would prevent rampant absenteeism and overpaid, underworked elected officials.  Dan also co-introduced the SaveNOW Program with Rep. Jay Hottinger and, with the leadership of then-State Treasurer Richard Cordray, the program became law and began in 2009.

Aside from being a legislator, Dan works as an attorney for Robert J. Dodd, Jr. Co. LPA., where he is joined by his father and his sister, Maureen, at law offices in New Lexington, Zanesville, The Plains, and Marietta. Dan is an attorney who helps workers injured on the job and works to stop big business from using loopholes in the law that take advantage of workers. Dan is also a member of several organizations, including the Perry Chamber of Commerce, the N.R.A. and the Perry County Farm Bureau.

Dan now lives outside of Hebron with his wife, Stephanie, and daughters, Cecilia and Frannie. She is a fellow Rosecrans High School and University of Cincinnati graduate.  They attend Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Buckeye Lake.
